Design of the New “Sahil” Microtunnel Sewer Collector
A major municipal drainage and trenchless tunneling engineering project focused on upgrading the wastewater collection system along Baku's central coastal strip. The project entails the design of the deep "Sahil" interceptor sewer collector constructed via microtunneling methods along the Baku Bay coastline to relieve existing overloaded utility networks.
Core engineering scope:
• Hydraulic analysis and capacity modeling for microtunnel sewer collectors with finished diameters of 1600 mm and 2000 mm;
• Development of plan-and-profile layouts and structural execution drawings adapted to challenging waterlogged coastal ground conditions;
• Structural engineering of deep launch shafts, reception pits, and intermediate inspection manhole shafts;
• Complex tie-in detailing and connection engineering to divert flows from existing basin carrier conduits into the new collector;
• Settlement monitoring protocols and ground stabilization measures to protect adjacent coastal promenade infrastructure and urban structures.
