Conceptual Design of the Qudyal River Reservoir
A large-scale conceptual hydraulic engineering project focused on regional water resource regulation and agricultural development across northeastern Azerbaijan. The project outlines the construction of a multi-purpose impoundment dam on the Qudyal River in the Guba district to mitigate sediment-laden mountain floods and guarantee sustainable irrigation for a 13,282-hectare command area, including 9,266 hectares of newly developed agricultural land.
The technical assignment encompasses the multi-criteria evaluation of two potential dam axis alignments:
• Alignment 1 (Dam 1): covers 3 height iterations (40 m to 60 m), impounding a storage capacity between 3.5 and 8.8 million m³;
• Alignment 2 (Dam 2): evaluates 3 structural profiles with dam heights ranging from 40 m to 70 m, facilitating an expanded storage volume from 12.9 up to 71.43 million m³.
The engineering analysis addresses geological foundations, debris-flow mitigation, flood discharge capacities through specialized spillways, and hydraulic connectivity with regional irrigation networks across the Guba-Khachmaz zone.
