Conceptual Design of a New Water Reservoir in Kalbajar District
A strategic hydraulic engineering conceptual project dedicated to the rehabilitation and long-term modernization of water resources infrastructure across the Eastern Zangezur economic region. The initiative outlines the construction of a new multi-purpose impoundment and regulation reservoir in the alpine Kalbajar district, aimed at regulating headwater flows within the Tartar River basin, establishing strategic freshwater storage, and securing water supply across the liberated territories.
Key conceptual engineering scopes include:
• Dam axis selection and structural typology assessment adapted to steep alpine topography and high seismic activity;
• Preliminary hydraulic design of flood spillways and energy dissipators engineered for severe snowmelt and storm runoff events;
• Sizing of bottom outlet works, intake gate chambers, and sedimentation control facilities;
• Gravity-fed conveyance scheme alignment to supply water for irrigation networks and reconstructed rural communities.
Commissioning this hydraulic headworks establishes resilient water security for regional agro-development while reinforcing integrated cascade water management across the broader Karabakh river system.
