Design of the Astara Station - Iran Border railway and bridge over the Astarachay River

Overview
An 8.3 km dual-gauge (1520/1435 mm) railway and an 82.5 m three-span bridge over the Astarachay River on the Iran border

A strategic project along the North–South international transport corridor (Russia–Azerbaijan–Iran–India), comprising an 8.3 km single-track railway from Astara station to the state border with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The project uniquely integrates a dual-gauge track system accommodating both 1,520 mm (broad gauge) and 1,435 mm (standard gauge) using heavy-duty R65 rails. The central engineering structure is the cross-border bridge over the Astarachay River, measuring 82.5 m in total length and 10.6 m in width. Consisting of three 27.5 m steel spans supported by reinforced concrete piers, it is designed to withstand heavy freight train dynamic loads and extreme flood conditions, complete with a four-rail interlaced track layout.
