Detailed design for capital repair of the Sugovushan Dam
A strategic hydraulic engineering project focused on structural modernization, operational resilience, and safety enhancement for the Sugovushan Reservoir headworks on the Tartarchay River. The scope encompassed the delivery of detailed design-estimate documentation for comprehensive repair, structural retrofitting, and commissioning across the dam and its auxiliary hydraulic structures.
Key engineered interventions comprise:
• Geotechnical stabilization of the embankment dam, crest refurbishment, and restoration of reinforced concrete slope protection against wave action;
• Complete rehabilitation of flood spillway structures, discharge chutes, and stilling basins to handle design flood inflows;
• Mechanical overhaul and modernization of bottom outlet works, including the replacement of high-pressure gates, valves, and hoisting systems;
• Deployment of automated structural health monitoring, piezometers, and real-time SCADA sensor networks.
The project ensures the safe, long-term operation of the 5.86 million m³ reservoir, re-establishing reliable gravity-fed irrigation across extensive agricultural farmlands in the Tartar, Aghdam, Goranboy, Yevlakh, and Barda districts.
