Reconstruction of the Yukhary Zeykhur Main Canal: Feasibility Study and Design
A major hydraulic infrastructure engineering project aimed at modernizing regional water distribution networks and maximizing water conveyance efficiency across northern Azerbaijan. The assignment encompassed the delivery of a comprehensive Feasibility Study and detailed engineering design documentation for the full reconstruction and capacity upgrading of the Yukhary Zeykhur main canal in the Gusar district.
Key engineered solutions include:
• Optimization of the canal cross-section geometry to restore nominal hydraulic discharge capacity;
• Installation of impervious cast-in-place and precast reinforced concrete channel linings to eliminate subsoil seepage losses;
• Rehabilitation and structural retrofitting of water intake chambers, distribution headworks, and automated flow-control gates;
• Overhaul of crossing structures across natural gullies and regional roadways (inverted siphons, aqueducts, and structural culverts);
• Integration of automated hydrometric telemetry and flow-monitoring instrumentation for real-time water accounting.
Executing the project secures an uninterrupted irrigation water supply for thousands of hectares of high-yield orchards and arable land across the Gusar and Khachmaz districts while mitigating waterlogging along adjacent corridors.
