Design of environmental remediation and landscaping for Lake Zigh
A multi-disciplinary environmental rehabilitation and hydraulic infrastructure project for the comprehensive remediation and landscaping of the territory surrounding Lake Zigh in the Surakhani district of Baku. The initiative focuses on restoring the ecological equilibrium across the Absheron Peninsula by remediating historical industrial contamination, rehabilitating the wetland basin, and establishing resilient green shelterbelts powered by water-efficient irrigation networks. The contract delivered a full Feasibility Study and detailed engineering design-estimate documentation.
Key engineered components of the project:
• Environmental remediation and desilting of the Lake Zigh basin and adjacent polluted land corridors;
• Engineering design of a reconstructed regulated water body at the site of Lake Zigh;
• Large-scale greening and afforestation across designated Northern and Eastern sectors;
• Integration of an automated drip irrigation network fed by a Ø315 mm (PE) main water transmission pipeline;
• Design of a modern multi-stage water treatment plant complex for effluent polishing and water reuse;
• Construction of stormwater and runoff conveyance channels utilizing open trapezoidal profiles and enclosed reinforced concrete culverts.
