Conceptual Design of the Yengija Reservoir

Overview
Conceptual design of Yengija reservoir: 45 m high dam, 12.5M m³ live storage irrigating 10,000 ha in Gabala

A conceptual hydraulic engineering project focused on water resource development, flood management, and agricultural infrastructure modernization across foothill regions of Azerbaijan. The initiative outlines the construction of an impoundment and regulation reservoir on the Yengicechay (Yengijachay) River in the Gabala district to provide sustainable, year-round irrigation for a 10,000-hectare command area (including 6,612 hectares of newly developed arable land and improved water reliability across 3,388 hectares of existing fields).

Key structural and volumetric parameters of the facility:
• Dam maximum structural height: 45.0 m;
• Dam crest length: 450.0 m;
• Gross reservoir design storage capacity: 17.5 million m³;
• Useful (active) live storage capacity: 12.5 million m³.

The conceptual engineering framework addresses catchment hydrology, debris-flow control, sediment accumulation forecasts, spillway hydraulic discharge sizing, and layout planning for gravity-fed connections to regional conveyance canal networks.
